An original production cel of Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon S: The Movie (1994), produced by Toei Animation during the height of the franchise’s cinematic era. The scene appears approximately 36 minutes into the film, capturing Usagi in a rare quiet moment of vulnerability, wrapped in soft winter clothing while the emotional weight of the story begins to settle around her. Removed from transformation sequences and heroic poses, the frame instead reflects the human side of Sailor Moon that defined much of the series’ emotional resonance.
The artwork carries the unmistakable visual identity of mid-1990s Toei Animation: luminous blonde hair rendered in layered highlights, delicate facial construction, and the restrained linework that allowed emotional expression to remain central even within highly stylised character design. The composition leaves significant negative space around Usagi, drawing focus toward her hesitant posture and subdued expression rather than spectacle or movement.
Included with the cel is its original matching douga as well as a studio-used Toei Animation timing sheet used during production. The timing sheet documents the exact frame planning and animation pacing for the sequence, preserving part of the technical blueprint behind the final photographed scene. Together, the materials trace the production pipeline from animator planning to finished hand-painted frame and provide a far deeper archival record than a standalone cel alone.
The set remains fully authentic to production and has not been recreated or reproduced. Every painted surface, graphite line and timing notation originates directly from the original production process at Toei Animation.
