An original production cel and matching genga of Satsuki from My Neighbor Totoro (1988), directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The piece shows Satsuki running barefoot in her orange skirt and yellow blouse during the early sequence where she and Mei explore their new countryside home — one of the film's most joyful and recognisable introductions.
Created under the supervision of Animation Director Yoshiharu Sato, whose expressive character work defined both sisters, this cel captures the natural motion and sincerity that became central to Miyazaki's visual language. Each cel was photographed on 35mm film, with multiple acetate layers used to achieve depth and fluidity.
Cels from Totoro's early exploration scenes are not a common find - thin-gauge acetate from this period often yellowed or warped over time, making well-preserved examples increasingly uncommon.
This cel belongs to Ghibli's transitional era between Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) and Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), a period that refined the studio's colour philosophy and motion realism.
