Original hand-painted promotional cel created for Yu-Gi-Oh! (遊☆戯☆王), produced by Toei Animation in 1998.
Promotional cels from Yu-Gi-Oh! (1998) are virtually unobtainable, and we’re proud at ORIOGI to be one of the only, if not the only, galleries in the world currently offering an original cel from the franchise.
This one-of-a-kind cel features Yugi Mutou during the memorable confrontation scene from Episode 9, “Explosion – The Ultimate Secret Yo-Yo Technique.”
It was painted directly from the production douga used in the series and selected by Toei for use on the studio’s official website prior to the show’s first broadcast—where it remains published today.
Unlike ordinary production cels, this promotional piece was produced in single-copy form for marketing display, making it one of the only surviving Yu-Gi-Oh! cels in private hands.
The artwork captures Yugi’s early-series design and the expressive, pre-digital colour palette emblematic of Toei’s 1990s period.
